National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man and other foreign top legislators paid courtesy calls to Cambodian leaders ahead of the 11th plenary session of the International Parliament for Tolerance and Peace (IPTP) in Phnom Penh on November 24.

The key Cambodian figures, including Senate President Samdech Techo Hun Sen, President of the Cambodian National Assembly Samdech Khuon Sudary, who chairs the IPTP-11, and Prime Minister Samdech Hun Manet.

During the exchange, Hun Sen laid stress on Cambodia's development goals, including plans to achieve the upper-middle-income status by 2030 and high-income one by 2050. He emphasised that Cambodia would share its development experience during the IPTP session to promote understanding and tolerance.

The IPTP operates under the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace (GCTP), an international organisation established in 2017 by UAE diplomats and current GCTP President Ahmed Bin Mohamed Aljarwan. The organisation aims at promoting a culture of peace and combating discrimination and extremism.

The 11th session drew the participation of nearly 200 parliamentary leaders, parliamentarians, representatives of regional and international parliamentary organisations, and invited partners. It is expected to adopt the Phnom Penh Declaration and the Peace Charter.

NA Chairman Man’s participation as a guest of the host nation demonstrates Vietnam's support for Cambodia, particularly during its IPTP chairmanship, thus contributing to consolidating and developing the traditional friendship and comprehensive cooperation between the two parliaments and the two nations.

During the session, the Vietnamese leader was set to deliver a keynote speech emphasising Vietnam's consistent stance on respecting international law and promoting multilateralism, with particular focus on the UN’s central role in preventing war and conflict./.
