Addressing a ceremony to honour outstanding intellectuals in science and technology in 2024, the top legislator said that throughout the history of national construction and defence, the country has always considered virtuous talents as vital energy of the nation.

The 13th Party Central Committee’s Resolution No. 45-NQ/TW affirms that the contingent of intellectuals is a special resource in the development of knowledge-based economy, industrialisation, modernisation, and international integration, an important factor in improving people's knowledge, training human resources, nurturing talents, and enhancing brainpower and national strength, making great contributions to the cause of innovation, building and defending the Fatherland, he said.

Highlighting the achievements and important contributions by intellectuals in the field of science and technology to the country’s socio-economic development and security-defence of the country, the leader said that each victory of the Vietnamese revolution sees the indispensable contributions from this contingent.

He recognised and lauded the efforts and attainments of the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations (VUSTA) and the 135 science-technology intellectuals honoured in 2024.

However, the NA Chairman pointed to a number of shortcomings in promoting the potential and creativity of intellectuals, including problems in policy and mechanism, adding the development of science and technology has yet to meet the reality’s requirements and the expectation of the Party, State and people.

Amid the currently globalisation trend, the intellectual contingent should renovate their mindset and come up with practical and effective solutions to turn science and technology into a growth driver of the country, he underlined.

Man requested VUSTA to continue gathering and optimising the creativity of the Vietnamese intellectuals inside and outside the country.

He said he hopes outstanding science-technology intellectuals will be bright examples and inspiration in their units, organisations and societies, worthy of the trust and hope of the Party, the State and the people.

The ceremony to honour outstanding intellectuals in science and technology is held biennially. This time, 135 intellectuals were honoured, including three receiving the title of Hero of Labour./.
