The Party Delegation of the National Assembly (NA) and the Party Civil Affairs Committee of the Government convened a meeting on September 17 to discuss preparations for the 15th NA’s 8th session scheduled to open next month.

Politburo member, Secretary of the Party Delegation of the NA, NA Chairman Tran Thanh Man, and Politburo member, Secretary of the Government’s Party Civil Affairs Committee, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh co-chaired the meeting.

The event was also attended by Politburo member, Secretary of the Party Central Committee and President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee Do Van Chien; Politburo member, Secretary of the Party Central Committee and Standing Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Hoa Binh; Politburo member and Minister of National Defence Phan Van Giang; and Politburo member and Minister of Public Security Luong Tam Quang.

In his opening remarks, NA Chairman Tran Thanh Man highlighted the smooth, practical and effective cooperation between the agencies of the NA and the Government over the past time to make preparations for various law projects and resolutions, asking them to send documents to NA deputies by October 1, 2024 at the latest.

They should not propose adding contents to the agenda of the 8th session after the NA Standing Committee issues the summons for the meeting, he added.

Man stressed that Typhoon Yagi, which devastated the northern region, has posed challenges to the Government to concretise the growth target, ensure stable macroeconomy, and curb inflation to ensure local livelihoods, underscoring the NA’s Party Delegation will substantively, and effectively work with the Government’s Party Civil Affairs Committee to handle difficulties for socio-economic development.

The NA's agencies stand ready to receive proposals, and documents, and review the contents that the Government will submit to the NA, while drafting and verification agencies must work closely on issues that are unclear or garner differing opinions.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh suggested close and effective coordination between ministries and sectors and the NA’s committees in preparation for the 8th session, highlighting the law building work must institutionalise and concretise the Party’s guidelines and policies, while evolving its approach with innovation within the drafting and verification agencies, so as to open up space conducive to development.

During the 8th session, which is scheduled to open on October 21, the NA will look into a multitude of contents, with 29 related to legislation, and 10 others on socio-economic affairs, state budget, supervision, and personnel work./.
