Thailand has new foreign minister

Thailand's King Maha Vajiralongkorn has approved Maris Sangiampongsa, 65, as the country's new foreign minister, according to the Royal Gazette.

The appointment came as his predecessor, Parnpree Bahiddha-Nukara, resigned on April 28 after a reshuffle of several cabinet members in the government of Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin.

A series of ambassadorial postings followed, to Nepal (2009), Australia (2011), New Zealand (2015) and Canada (2018), the Bangkok Post said./.
