The use of drone technology enables the monitoring of environment and wildlife protection as well as forest encroachment to be carried out more effectively, Malaysian Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad has said at a July 16 symposium.

As reported by the country’s national news agency Bernama, the official said currently the drone technology is being used by several agencies under the ministry such as the Department of Environment (DOE), the Forestry Department of Malaysia (JPSM), the Department of Wildlife and National Parks (Perhilitan), and the Department of Survey and Mapping Malaysia (JUPEM).

“With the presence of drones, even though they are not 100%, they help a lot in the work, giving us an advantage and helping us carry out our tasks efficiently,” the minister said as quoted by Bernama.

He also reminded all parties to use the technology wisely and responsibly, adding that those flying drones even for the purpose of aerial work must obtain a permit from the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM)./.
