Indonesia: Landslides, flash floods cause over 40 people missing

Indonesian rescue forces reported on July 8 that the number of people missing following landslides and flash floods at a gold mine in Gorontalo province has risen to 46.

Heriyanto, head of the provincial search and rescue office, said that more locals have reported missing relatives after the disaster in Bone Bolango district. The victims include miners and villagers who were resting inside camps at the mining site when the incident occurred.

According to the official, the disaster struck amid heavy rains on the night of July 6, with 24 survivors logged. Authorities have deployed a 230-strong rescue team to various locations where many victims are believed to be trapped. However, heavy rain and difficult access to the mining area have hindered their efforts./.
