Beijing (VNA) – The ground forces of Vietnam and China are conducting their first joint training exercise in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region from July 21 to 30.

The Chinese Ministry of National Defence said in a statement on July 20 that the exercise aims to enhance exchange of border management experiences while deepening practical cooperation between the two militaries.

According to the spokesperson of the Chinese Ministry of National Defence, over the recent past, the two sides have strengthened high-level exchanges and interactions, established a “3+3” strategic dialogue mechanism covering diplomacy, defence, and security, and conducted joint counterterrorism training. Besides, they have arranged multiple border friendship exchanges and joint patrols in the Gulf of Tonkin.

From the outset of this year, the naval and coast guard forces of both countries have stepped up maritime collaboration.

Chinese military expert Zhang Junshe emphasised that the joint army training is a crucial step for both armed forces to fortify their practical cooperation, contributing to the deeper mutual understanding and the enduring traditional friendship between the two militaries. Additionally, the exercise plays an essential role in maintaining peace and stability along the shared border and the broader region./.
