Vietnamese authorities keep close watch on developments in East Sea: Spokeswoman
All research and survey activities of foreign countries conducted in Vietnam’s exclusive economic zone and continental shelf, which have been established in accordance with the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), without Vietnam’s permission, violate the nation’s sovereign rights and jurisdiction, the spokeswoman stressed.

Permanent Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Minh Vu stressed the need to enhance the performance of institutions established under the Convention, thereby reinforcing the role and vitality of UNCLOS, referred to as the “Constitution for the Oceans,” in maintaining maritime order, conserving and sustainably utilising marine resources, and contributing to global peace, stability, and sustainable development.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in collaboration with the Vietnam Society of International Law, on December 10 organised a seminar on the Agreement under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) on the Conservation and Sustainable Use of Marine Biological Diversity of Areas beyond National Jurisdiction (BBNJ Agreement).
