National Assembly (NA) Chairman Tran Thanh Man received a delegation of NA deputies across various tenures from the Mekong Delta province of Soc Trang on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the first general election of Vietnam (January 6, 1946 - 2026).

The NA leader extended his warmest greetings and best wishes for good health to the deputies from Soc Trang, and hailed outstanding achievements that the province has made so far.

Last year, the province met and exceeded all 24 targets set for the year, with its gross regional domestic product (GRDP) expanding 7.07%, domestic revenue reaching 4.42 trillion VND (173.07 million USD), and poverty rate dropping to 1.32%. These results have significantly contributed to the country’s overall achievements, he recognised.

Mentioning the current efforts to streamline and re-organise the political system’s organisational apparatus, the NA Chairman highlighted the initial results of this process have been very positive, gaining support from Party members, officials, and the public.

As scheduled, during its upcoming 9th session, the NA will consider amendments to the Constitution regarding the political system’s organisational structure, he said, adding that following constitutional changes, there will be discussions on the abolition of district-level administrative units and the reorganisation of provincial-level ones.

The streamlining of communal-level administrative units will take place after the Party Central Committee's meeting, scheduled for mid-April. Based on recommendations from localities, the Government will present to the NA Standing Committee proposals for the restructuring of communal-level administrative units. It is expected that 60-70% of the 10,035 communal-level units will be cut, with the ultimate aim of bringing the apparatus closer to the people.

The top legislator emphasised that the revolution to streamline the system is entering the second stage with numerous difficulties, urging Soc Trang’s representatives continue to strongly support the initiative. Streamlining the apparatus is to have more resources for development investment and socio-cultural sectors, he explained.

At the meeting, Secretary of the Soc Trang Party Committee and head of the province’s delegation to the 15th NA Lam Van Man said that the province will focus on three key tasks, including accelerating development and striving to achieve the goals and targets set for 2025 and the 2020-2025 term; implementing the streamlining of the political system in line with the Paty Central Committee guidelines; and organising local Party congresses and the 15th provincial Party Congress for the 2025-2030 tenure in preparation for the 14th National Party Congress.

The official affirmed that Soc Trang’s NA deputies across various terms will continue to contribute their wisdom and efforts to the activities of the legislature./.
