Hanoi (VNA) – National Assembly (NA) Vice Chairman Nguyen Duc Hai, who is also a member of the National Election Council (NEC) and head of its Information and Communications Subcommittee, chaired the subcommittee’s first meeting in Hanoi on September 8 to prepare for the 2026 elections.

The meeting focused on draft resolutions covering working regulations and member assignments, and the subcommittee’s activity plan for the elections of deputies to the 16th NA and all-level People’s Councils for 2026–2031.

In his address, Hai stressed the subcommittee’s critical role in supporting the NEC’s information, communications, and voter outreach efforts. He described the mission as vital to the elections’ success, underscoring the need for alignment with the Party Central Committee’s guidelines on election organisation while adapting to new conditions following the recent major events.

He called for timely, accurate, and widespread communications to build public trust and consensus. He envisioned the Election Day as a “festival of the people” linked to key national milestones, including the 80th anniversaries of the August Revolution, the National Day, and the first general election, as well as the upcoming 14th National Party Congress.

Vietnam is undergoing reforms to streamline its political system and improve efficiency. As the 2026 elections face a shorter preparation period than previous cycles, he urged creative and coordinated communication methods across diverse platforms, with a focus on reaching remote and ethnic minority communities, religious groups, and overseas Vietnamese to ensure equitable access to information.

He advocated greater use of digital transformation in communications and also tailored content for foreign audiences. He directed the NA Office to work with other subcommittees to prepare unified materials for the NEC.

The official further suggested quickly establishing a press centre and building a plan for regular press briefings.

The subcommittee’s working group was tasked with incorporating feedback from the meeting, finalising draft resolutions for NEC review, and providing timely recommendations to maintain progress./.
