Russia earthquake sparks tsunami warning in Philippines
According to Phivolcs, based on analysis and tsunami forecast models from the US Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre (PTWC), coastal areas of the Philippines in the Pacific Ocean are expected to experience tsunami waves of nearly one metre. These tsunami waves are predicted to continue for several hours.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) on July 30 issued a tsunami warning after an 8.8-magnitude earthquake struck off Russia’s far eastern Kamchatka peninsula.
According to Phivolcs, based on analysis and tsunami forecast models from the US Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre (PTWC), coastal areas of the Philippines in the Pacific Ocean are expected to experience tsunami waves of nearly one metre. These tsunami waves are predicted to continue for several hours.

Phivolcs warned residents to be alert for unusual waves and stay away from the beach until the advisory is lifted. Households living near the coast were advised to move further inland./.
