What are the responsibilities of the National Assembly Standing Committee in elections of deputies to the National Assembly and People’s Councils at all levels under Vietnamese law?
Under Clause 3, Article 4 of the Law on Election of Deputies to the National Assembly and People’s Councils, the Standing Committee is tasked with proposing and allocating the number of National Assembly deputies to be elected. It is also responsible for determining the structure and composition of candidates nominated for National Assembly elections.
In addition, the body provides guidance on the projected structure, composition and allocation of candidates nominated for elections to People’s Councils at provincial, district and commune levels.
The Standing Committee is further mandated to supervise the election process for both National Assembly and People’s Council deputies, ensuring that elections are conducted in a democratic, lawful, safe and cost-effective manner.
