Second consultative conference in Quang Tri: Finalizing preliminary lists of candidates
Quang Tri Province on February 2 convened its second consultative conference to finalize preliminary lists of candidates for the 16th National Assembly and the provincial People’s Council for the 2026–2031 term, as part of preparations for Vietnam’s upcoming elections.

The conference was co-chaired by Nguyen Chien Thang, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairperson of the Provincial VFF Committee and Deputy Chairperson of the Provincial Election Committee, and Dao Manh Hung, Standing Vice Chairperson of the Provincial VFF Committee and a member of the Provincial Election Committee.
The meeting was organized based on the results of the first consultative conference and in accordance with guidance from the Standing Committee of the National Assembly on the first adjustment to the number, structure and composition of deputies to the 16th National Assembly.

Following consultation with the Standing Committee of the Provincial People’s Council, the Provincial VFF Committee issued notices on the allocation and guidance for agencies, organizations and localities across the province to nominate candidates for the National Assembly in line with assigned quotas, structures and composition.
In compliance with the Law on Election of Deputies to the National Assembly and People’s Councils, the standards for National Assembly deputies, and relevant central and provincial guidance documents, the nomination process was implemented seriously and in strict accordance with prescribed procedures. The process consisted of three key steps: leadership meetings within agencies and units to propose candidates; conferences to collect opinions from voters at workplaces regarding proposed candidates; and expanded leadership meetings to review voter feedback and confidence levels before officially deciding on nominations.

The Standing Committee of the Provincial VFF fully received the minutes and documentation from nomination conferences held by agencies, organizations, units and localities, as required by regulations. Notably, the collection of opinions from workplace voters was conducted in a serious and democratic manner. On average, voter participation at these conferences reached 96 percent.
At the voter meetings, opinions expressed reflected a high level of consensus and positive assessments of the political integrity, moral character, professional competence and public credibility of proposed candidates. All nominees for the 16th National Assembly received a 100 percent confidence vote from workplace voters.
After discussion, the conference unanimously agreed to establish a preliminary list of 16 candidates for the 16th National Assembly nominated by agencies, organizations, units and localities across Quang Tri Province.

On the same day, the Vietnam Fatherland Front of Quang Tri Province also held the second consultative conference to agree on a preliminary list of candidates for the 9th Provincial People’s Council for the 2026–2031 term. The conference discussed and unanimously approved a preliminary list of 108 candidates for the provincial People’s Council.
Immediately following the second consultative conference, the Standing Committee of the Provincial VFF issued guidance to localities on organizing voter meetings at places of residence to collect comments and confidence assessments for National Assembly and People’s Council candidates, in accordance with regulations.
Earlier, on February 1, the Provincial Election Committee coordinated with the Standing Committee of the Provincial VFF to organize the handover and receipt of dossiers for candidates nominated for the 16th National Assembly and the 9th Provincial People’s Council of Quang Tri Province. By 5:00 p.m. on February 1, the Provincial Election Committee had received 16 dossiers for National Assembly candidates and 108 dossiers for candidates for the provincial People’s Council.
The successful organization of the second consultative conference marks an important step in ensuring transparency, democracy and compliance with legal procedures in the candidate selection process, contributing to the orderly and effective preparation for the upcoming elections in Quang Tri Province.
