Secretary of the ministry’s Directorate General of Sea Transportation Lollan Andy Sutomo Panjaitan said on August 5 that traffic congestion in Bali, particularly on the route from I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport to major tourist destinations, has become increasingly severe.

To address this, Panjaitan said that with the introduction of a water taxi service, visitors will be able to travel directly from the airport to Canggu without being caught in traffic. He emphasised that this mode of transport will be integrated into the island’s air and maritime transportation systems.

He also noted that the Indonesian government is currently conducting surveys, technical analyses, and feasibility studies. In addition, authorities are considering the development of a Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) system and a Light Rail Transit (LRT) network in Bali to expand the island’s public transportation infrastructure. He stressed that these measures are aimed at improving the efficiency of Bali’s tourism sector in the future.
