IPU-150: Vietnamese NA Chairman meets Cuban legislator

National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man had a meeting with Rolando González, President of the Latin American and Caribbean Parliament (Parlatino) and Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Cuban National Assembly of People’s Power, in Uzbekistan on April 6 afternoon.

National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man had a meeting with Rolando González, President of the Latin American and Caribbean Parliament (Parlatino) and Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Cuban National Assembly of People’s Power, in Uzbekistan on April 6 afternoon.

The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 150th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU-150), during which Rolando González highlighted the special traditional friendship between the two countries.

He suggested the Vietnamese and Cuban legislatures continue to maintain their close coordination and mutual support at multilateral forums.

Rolando González also affirmed his wiliness to work as a bridge helping enhance friendship and cooperation between Parlatino and the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) in general, and with the Vietnamese NA in particular, as well as between the Vietnamese legislative body and Parlatino member states.

NA Chairman Man affirmed that the Vietnamese Party and State leaders, and people always bear in mind and appreciate Cuba's support during the past struggle for national independence and reunification. Vietnam highly values and is determined to deepen the special traditional friendship and solidarity between the two nations, standing side by side with and supporting the righteous revolutionary cause of the Cuban people.

Agreeing with proposals from Rolando González, he confirmed Vietnam's continued support for strengthening and deepening bilateral relations across all Party, State, and parliamentary channels. He committed to actively coordinating preparations for the visit to Vietnam by the President of the National Assembly of People's Power of Cuba in 2025, and co-chairing the second meeting of the Vietnam-Cuba Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Committee.

He suggested Rolando González help promote cooperation relations between the Vietnamese NA and the parliaments of Latin American countries, contributing to opening new prospects for cooperation and realising opportunities and potential in the relations with countries in this region./.
