Indonesia slashes allowances for official meetings to cut government spending

The Indonesian government has decided to cut budget state for meeting activities outside the office for state civil servants from ministries and institutions starting in 2026.

Lisbon Sirait, an official from the ministry, said that spending on meetings, including costs for venues, food, and beverages, will be more strictly controlled to ensure greater fiscal efficiency.
The ministry has urged all government ministries and agencies to limit off-site meetings and instead make greater use of technology, such as Zoom, to conduct virtual meetings and ease budgetary pressure.
Sirait acknowledged that the hotel sector has been adversely affected by the government’s ongoing cost-cutting drive, which includes reducing spending on conferences and official travel.
