The northern province of Bac Giang aims to complete the campaign to do away with temporary and dilapidated houses by November this year, according to the local Fatherland Front Committee.
It eyes to approve and break ground on all eligible housing projects by May 31.
Local authorities have identified 795 homes of poor and near-poor households and individuals with recognised service to the nation that qualify for support. Of these, 475 require complete reconstruction and 320 need significant repairs, with estimated costs totaling 39 billion VND (1.53 million USD).
An additional 503 substandard dwellings requiring upgrade have been identified but they do not meet eligibility criteria, primarily due to land use right certification issues or other regulatory complications.
Progress is already underway with 115 projects in motion.
The Chairperson of the provincial People’s committee has held biweekly meetings to review and remove bottlenecks for the work.
Last year, the province mobilised more than 86 billion VND, over 51,000 volunteer workdays, and donations of building materials to build and repair nearly 1,400 houses for poor and near-poor households and people who rendered service to the nation./.

In the 2024-2025 period, the province planned to replace 11,024 substandard houses. So far, it has built and repaired 7,531 houses.
